Community fortunate to have Cape Gazette

August 9, 2019

This past Sunday, Aug. 5, in the New York Times was a special section on how difficult it has been for a surprising number of newspapers across the country, especially paper print versions, to remain profitable and keep the presses running.

I will not repeat the sad statistics here. I simply want to thank the Cape Gazette owners, staff, advertisers and subscribers alike for your parts in giving us, the public, such a wealth of information and local news twice a week. With the future of the News Journal at risk due to the probable merger of Gannett with Gatehouse, the presence of the Cape Gazette is even more important. I don’t even want to think about how much would be at risk here in Sussex County if we didn’t have the reporting of local land-use issues, and various political wheelings and dealings that the Gazette supplies us.

Like the Joni Mitchell song said,  “You don’t know what you’ve got ‘till it’s gone.”
