Community hosts talk with local author
Local writer Lyn McDonald spoke with reading enthusiasts during a March 19 author talk hosted by hosted by members of the Hawthorne community near Georgetown.
McDonald shared her journeys in writing and publishing her children’s books, “The Great Tree and the Ladybug” and “When the Walls Came Down.” She spoke candidly about her doubts and the mistakes she made as she stepped into the publishing world, and how much she learned in the process. McDonald said she was fortunate to have very talented illustrators for both her books, but finding the right editor and print house was a challenge.
“The Great Tree and the Ladybug,” for young children, is about learning to overcome one’s fears. “When the Walls Came Down,” for preteens to adult readers, is an introspective tale about the importance of people listening to their own hearts and living a life that makes them happy.
McDonald is also an inspirational writer and a poet. She created her website, greenlightpages.com, to bring light to counteract the heaviness of the world through inspiration, positivity, growth and healing.
Hawthorne community book club leaders work together to sponsor guest author events for their members.
