Constance Ruth Smith, loving grandmother
Constance “Connie” Ruth (Stevens) Smith, 89, formerly of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at Augusta Health, Fishersville, Va.
Connie was born July 22, 1936, and grew up in Baltimore, Md., where she met and married her husband, Earl Wright Smith. Connie and Earl were married 51 years, retiring to Rehoboth Beach in their later years.
Connie spent her last few years living in Virginia with her grandson, Patrick Smith, his wife Destiny, and great-grandson Weston, until she went to Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. There she enjoyed relating with family and friends, whether through in-person visits or phone calls. Connie loved to share what she had, often giving her snacks away to family, nursing home friends, or anyone she could convince to take something. She was an avid book reader, great conversationalist, and she loved her goodies, especially her Diet Coke.
Connie spoke often of her grandson, Michael, his wife Haley, and their children, Easton and Brianna, as well as Samantha Lewis, her very dear niece. These all played significant roles in her life over the last years, whether by personal visits, phone calls, or sending her goodies in the mail. Connie's great-grandchildren were priceless treasures to her, and she loved to talk about them to anyone who would listen. Family was very important to Connie.
Connie is preceded in death by her husband, Earl; and her sister and best friend, Patricia Hopkins.
She is survived by two sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Connie will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.
