The Peninsula Gallery announced Maryland contemporary artist Kate Norris as its featured artist for August.
Norris is a teaching artist from Baltimore. Her current body of work gives homage to naturalists and illustrators from the 16th to 19th centuries. Her mixed media collages are made from tearing vintage wallpaper and reconstructing the pieces in a new way, giving new meaning with a modern sensibility. Her collages open up conversations about process, techniques and symbolic associations.
Norris graduated with a bachelor of arts degree from Stanford University and earned her master of fine arts degree at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She has exhibited her work in San Francisco, New York City, Tampa, Tennessee, Delaware, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
Eight wallpaper collage works from Norris will be on display throughout the month of August. The works include images of birds, sea creatures, insects, vegetation, and more. Her unique technique and style is a welcome change to the traditional works typically on display in the gallery.
Norris’s works can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com and are available for purchase.
Featured Artist of the Month is a recurring event produced by Peninsula Gallery to highlight works created by different artists. The lineup of participants includes some of the gallery’s resident artists, repeat exhibitors and artists entirely new to the space.
