DAR seeks Georgetown Hometown Heroes nominations

Banner program to honor active military and veterans
April 17, 2022

The Maj. Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter NSDAR is seeking nominees for its Hometown Heroes Banner Program.

The living tribute recognizes and honors military personnel who are currently serving or veterans who have served in the United States armed forces. To qualify, currently enlisted personnel, and living or deceased veterans must have or have had a connection to Georgetown at some point in their life. They may have attended school or served in Georgetown, or be related to someone in Georgetown.

Those honored on war memorials, and veterans recommended by local VFW and American Legion posts qualify as well.

The banners will be 18-by-45-inch heavy Sunbrella material, printed on both sides, and will display the service person’s photograph, including their full name, branch of the military and era of service.

Each banner requires the Hometown Hero form to be filled out and include a photograph of the hero in uniform. Forms are being accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

To obtain an application, go to darmitchell.org/georgetown-hometown-heroes-banner-project. Applications may be submitted to majornathanielmitchell@gmail.com or printed and mailed with a photo to 24359 Gravel Hill Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.
