Dark Sky-compliant streetlights installed in Lewes community

April 12, 2026

Marking a continued commitment to environmental stewardship, wildlife preservation and thoughtful design, Carl M. Freeman Companies announced the implementation of Dark Sky-compliant lighting on the streets of its Tower Hill community near Lewes.

Driven by the passion and leadership of the community’s homeowners and HOA representatives, the installation reflects a proactive commitment to reducing light pollution and preserving the natural nighttime environment. The lighting solutions not only enhance residents’ ability to enjoy clear, star-filled skies, but also play an important role in supporting migratory birds and local wildlife. The project reflects a shared dedication to conservation and responsible development, with collaboration from key partners including Delaware Electric Cooperative and K. Hovnanian Homes.

Dark Sky-compliant lighting is designed to minimize glare, reduce sky glow and direct light downward where it is needed, benefiting both residents and the surrounding ecosystem. These efforts align with a broader movement to protect coastal environments and migratory patterns increasingly impacted by artificial light.

“Preserving the natural beauty of our communities is rooted in how we live in harmony with the environment around us,” said Michelle Freeman, president and CEO of Carl M. Freeman Companies. “Dark Sky initiatives are an important step in protecting our night skies, supporting migratory wildlife and honoring the rhythms of nature so future generations can experience these special places just as they were meant to be.”
