DART working to grow service in Sussex

February 28, 2020

The Delaware Transit Corporation, the operator of DART transit services, is committed to meeting the transportation needs of Sussex County and the entire state of Delaware.

Over the past several years we have made significant investments in public transportation in Sussex County, including flex services in western Sussex, opening the Lewes Transit Center, adding the Route 215 between Rehoboth and Millsboro, and beginning year-round service in the Lewes-Rehoboth area.

We continue to work with community groups, chambers of commerce, and elected officials to understand the transportation needs across Sussex.
DTC also works closely with DelDOT and Sussex County to ensure critical infrastructure improvements are made to support public transit.

As an example, DelDOT’s project along Route 24 beginning this spring will add sidewalks and the required bus stop pads at the intersection of Route 24 and Oak Orchard to accommodate new bus stops.

We realize there are gaps in the system as traditional fixed-route transit is not the most efficient way to use resources to meet needs in more rural areas where demand is lower, and will continue to look at how we can develop more efficient and effective service delivery options to meet the growing demands for public transit in Sussex County.
