David C. Hartnett, retired computer programmer

David C. Hartnett, 83, of Lewes,  passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 7, 2017.
Dave is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (nee Parra), whom he cared for and loved for over 63 years. He also leaves behind his children, Deborah (Lou Ruzicka), David (Barbara), Thomas (Patrice), Mark (Christine), and Christopher (Gail), as well as 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Dave served in the U.S. Army, and was stationed in Georgia, when he and Bette married in 1953. Dave spent most of his career as a computer programmer and then systems analyst at RCA, which included frequent relocations of the family to places from Alaska to Florida, and even overseas in Belgium. He eventually settled in Medford, N.J., in 1970. He also worked for Burlington County until he and Bette retired to Lewes in 1998.
Dave served the town of Medford as mayor, councilman and on the zoning board. He was active in many charitable organizations over the years, including the Boy Scouts, historical societies, the Optimist Club, the Lions Club, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and many more. Dave was a waterfowl artist. He enjoyed fishing the shores of a lake or the ocean surf, and he loved to read. Those wishing to remember Dave with his family may do so Sunday, Sept. 17, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 South Third St., Hammonton, N.J.
