Four-time winner of Delaware’s Strongest Man Competition and former personal trainer to Channing Tatum, Will Harris has started Rehoboth Beach Barbell Club. Since opening shop in May, Harris and his five employees have accrued 65 members.

Open seven days a week, Rehoboth Beach Barbell Club has programs ranging from youth weightlifting to a women only boot camp, as well as a strongman class. Classes last one hour and occasionally take place outside so participants can enjoy sunshine and fresh air.  Classes are designed to make moving everyday objects fun, so participants can be found moving tires or other large items.

“Unlike other gyms that have their cliques, there is no judgement shown here. Everybody treats you like family,” Harris said. “We have game nights and hang out, even when not working out.”

People of all ages and backgrounds can be found at Rehoboth Beach Barbell Club, with everyone encouraging each other and pushing each other to better themselves. Members ranging in age from 13 to 72.

Harris, who has been teaching strength and fitness class for 13 years, also owns a gym in his home state of New York. When he moved to Delaware, he loaded his Jeep with equipment and brought it down. Being the closest gym to the beach, it draws a lot of attention. People can work out and then walk to the beach.

Harris is an avid competitor. “I always encourage everyone to compete,” Harris said. “You’re never going to push yourself to the limits until you continuously work at things that you don’t want to do in order to better yourself. Things you don’t enjoy are what you need to work on. You can’t hide from those things.”
