Delaware COPS gala set Oct. 8

September 21, 2022

Delaware Concerns of Police Survivors will be celebrating 20 years of service and support among the families and members of the law enforcement community. A gala celebration will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, at Delaware State Troopers Association. All are welcome to attend.

Many family members across generations of fallen law enforcement in Delaware play a direct role in support and service to the traumatic line-of-duty death. The Delaware chapter was inspired the family of a fallen female state trooper more than 20 years ago. The impact of any law enforcement personnel is no less impactful in 2022 than as far back as the 1930s.

Family members of all ages and many relations find support, understanding and comfort in shared community programs, memorial services and national events in Washington, D.C. COPS founded a scholarship endowment for children of fallen officers and supports memorial cycling programs that raise awareness for the brave women and men who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The Delaware chapter comprises dedicated survivors whose mission is to remember and honor every fallen officer in the state of Delaware and also provide compassion and support to immediate and traumatic impacts of a line-of-duty death.

COPS’s annual camp program for young people played a tremendous role for many years in the emotional support of children whose parent died in the line of duty as a Delaware state trooper.  A member of the Delaware chapter was grateful to explore the connection in COPS when she lost her father as a young girl in the 1960s. A granddaughter of a fallen town officer of the Lewes Police Department has found a pathway with COPS and law enforcement in remembrance of her grandfather and family legacy more than 80 years ago.

COPS’s mission is rebuilding shattered lives and is made possible by the greater community of Delaware.

For more information and to purchase tickets to the gala, go to www.DECOPS.org. The gala will run from 4 to 8 p.m. Cost of tickets is $45. The guest speaker for the business casual event will be Col. David Mitchell. The evening will have a buffet dinner, cash bar, and silent and live auctions. Donations may also be made to Delaware COPS, P.O. Box 430, Dover, DE 19903.
