Delaware District 3 falls in World Series title game
The Delaware District 3 seniors softball team battled top-tier international talent in the Senior Softball World Series in Roxana last week.
After reaching the championship game with six straight wins, the local squad ran into a buzzsaw in the form of the squad from Grand Blanc, Mich., which no-hit Delaware Aug. 3, in a 10-0 win for the trophy.
Central pitcher Kayla Blumenschein threw five innings and struck out 10 batters while only walking one. Delaware’s Cierra Lewis went the distance in the circle, giving up 11 hits and 10 runs (five earned) while striking out five batters.

“We didn’t have any answers today,” said District 3 manager Clint Lutz. “Central played an all-around game. But this one loss doesn’t define us all week. We played well all week and won a lot of close games. We played hard. The girls have no reason to hang their heads. I’m really proud of them and they way they have responded this week.”
