Delaware Federation of Republican Women celebrates 60 years
A convention for Delaware Federation of Republican Women held recently at Dover Downs was a huge success, celebrating 60 years strong. Representing all three Delaware counties, attendees enjoyed lunch, door prizes and camaraderie.
Keynote speaker was Rae Lynne Chornenky, president of the National Federation of Republican Women. Chormenky's message was one of detailing the principles and objectives of the grassroots organization. She also gave stats on women's inequality in the workplace, the unemployment record of women and the huge numbers of women now in poverty.
The host speaker, Mary Spicer, DFRW president, kept the conference moving along with comments from Ellen Barrosse, national committeewoman, and presidents of all Delaware clubs.
The Mary M. Boggs Award was given to Bunny Parrish of Sussex County for her outstanding and tireless contribution to the Republican Party. The attendees were also treated to visits from several candidates running for statewide offices. Those giving their time were Jeff Craig, Sher Valenzuela and Tom Kovach.
These energetic candidates genuinely thanked the women for their efforts in helping with their campaigns.
The NFRW, founded in 1938, has thousands of active members in local cubs across the nation and U.S. territories, making it one of the largest women's political organizations in the country. The organization works to promote the principles and objectives of the Republican Party, elect Republican candidates, inform the public through political education and activity, and increase the effectiveness of women in the cause of good government.
