Delaware Money School to host Avoiding Probate March 26
Delaware Money School will offer Avoiding Probate from 6 to 7 p.m., Monday, March 26, at the Job Center in the Georgetown Public Library, 123 W. Pine St. The class, taught by Samuel F. Slabaugh, certified financial planner, covers avoiding probate, how to make the transition of property occur seamlessly at the time of death, without opening an estate.
Delaware Money School provides this experienced instructor free of charge to the public. Having written, spoken and taught on the subject many times, Slabaugh is sought after to break down what appears to be a complex subject into simple, understandable layman’s terms.
This class focuses only on steps the lay person can take so assets transfer at death to the intended beneficiaries by operation of law, immediately and automatically. Those who have served as personal representatives or executors of an estate know firsthand how complex, expensive and time-consuming the probate process can be.
Everyone should have a will, but this class teaches how to avoid the probate process.
The Money School is the signature program of the nonprofit Delaware Financial Literacy Institute, which offers more than 600 free, no-hassle personal finance classes a year throughout the state, taught by volunteers from the nonprofit and corporate sectors.
From Purses to Portfolios: Delaware Women Take Charge of Their Money targets women's unique financial needs and seeks to empower them. Participants can enroll in this program and earn a certificate that demonstrates a commitment to financial education.
