Delaware State Police cancels Camp Barnes

April 30, 2020

Delaware State Police have canceled all sessions of Camp Barnes for the summer of 2020.Applications for the summer of 2021 will be available March 1.

In 1947, the Delaware Association of Chiefs of Police, an organization that included active law enforcement and correctional officers, accepted the challenge to undertake a project to combat juvenile delinquency in the state. A committee was appointed to investigate problems confronting youth. Its resulting recommendation led to the creation of Camp Barnes.

Camp Barnes is located on Millers Creek, a tributary of Little Assawoman Bay. Thousands of Delaware children have had the opportunity to attend summer camp at Camp Barnes. Today, Camp Barnes is open to all Delaware children between the ages of 10 and 13. Children attend the camp at no cost to the camper or their family.
