Delaware Tech Owens posts June Kids Camps June 25-29
Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus is offering a variety of camps Monday to Friday, June 25 to 29, to keep children active, engaged and learning. More camps will be offered throughout summer.
Enhancing English Skills (grades 6-8), 10 a.m. to noon, is offered for those who are already good writers and are looking for an opportunity to practice their skills, as well as those lacking confidence in their abilities.
Health Care Career Exploration Camp (ages 12-15), 9 a.m. to noon, will give students a chance to see firsthand careers in nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, veterinary, radiologic and respiratory care technologies.
Sweet Inspirations Kids Bake Shoppe Camp (ages 7-15), 9 a.m. to noon, will give students the chance to learn to accurately measure, mix, bake and decorate a delicious assortment of bake shop specialties. Children will be divided into age appropriate groups.
Musical Theatre Camp (ages 7-11), 1 to 4 p.m., will feature songs, dances and scenes from cherished Broadway favorites from stage and screen. Children will participate in solo, duet, trio and small pieces from favorites like "The Sound of Music,” “Oklahoma,” “Hello Dolly,” “Hair Spray,” “Annie” and more.
Enjoy Being Green (ages 6-9), 9 a.m. to noon, is a fun-filled interactive camp exploring environmental topics and geocaching (treasure hunting with a GPS). Held from 9 a.m. to noon June 25-29.
Little Scientists (ages 6-8), 9 a.m. to noon, offers hands-on experiments to make learning fun. From making music to chemical reactions, this camp will keep little scientists guessing and having fun.
Introduction to Ballet (ages 7-11), 1 to 4 p.m., teaches ballet techniques and styles, discussion of creative choreography using fantasy themes from famous ballets, dance games, and arts and crafts.
Baseball (ages 7-12), 8:30 to 11:30, will focus on fundamentals and drills: basic mechanics of pitching, infield/outfield plays, hitting, base running and sliding tips.
Basketball for Boys (ages 9-12), 9 a.m. to noon, covers defensive play, rebounding, passing, shooting, dribbling and movement. There will be practice drills, lead-up games and relays.
Cheerleading I (ages 7-12), 1 to 4 p.m., teaches the basics of arm movement, voice and crowd control. Campers will learn new cheers, chants, cheerleading techniques, cartwheels, flips and jumps.
Karate Camp (ages 7-14), 1 to 4 p.m., will introduce a week's worth of basic karate movements to help improve coordination and concentration, and build respect in a fun and safe learning environment.
Tennis (ages 7-18), 9 a.m. to noon, will teach fundamentals and basic rules of play. This camp will be held at The Plantations in Lewes.
LEGOS in Motion (ages 7-12), 1 to 4 p.m., offers LEGO lovers the chance to take their zeal to the extreme and create their own stop-motion movies with LEGOS.
