Three Delmarva Christian players hit for 10 points in the Royals’ 62-16 victory over Worcester Prep Dec. 4 in Georgetown. They move to 2-0 on the season.

Bella Marinelli, Mia Elliott and Layni Dukes scored 10 apiece, while Evelyn Bohinski, Journey Handy and Ryley McCluskey hit for nine, eight and seven points, respectively. Handy also grabbed seven rebounds.

“There are a lot of things we lack,” said Royals first-year head coach Frank Roach. “There is a lot to learn, but they are working very hard and they are playing very hard. We have a young bench, but our seniors are who we are going to rely on.”

The Royals took a 20-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back, earning a running-clock victory after scoring 21 in the second quarter and 17 in the third while holding the Mallards to just 16 points for the game.

“We feel good,” said Handy. “We have to work as a team. No one can do it alone. It’s five-on-five, not five-on-one. We’ll be good.”

“We’ve been working on our press a lot in practice,” said Dukes. “It’s paid off in the first two games, getting us a lot of steals. If we communicate on defense and make our layups, I think we’ll be fine.”

“Everyone played their roles,” said Roach. “The players cheered each other on and fought extremely hard.”

Sophomore Sydney Mize led the Mallards with five points.
