Delmarva Christian girls bounce back to split ESIAC contests
The Delmarva Christian girls’ basketball team leveled its conference record with a 42-26 victory over Salisbury Christian Dec. 10, after a 40-15 loss to Sts. Peter and Paul Dec. 8.
The Royals have ruled the ESIAC for the last four years, but it might be the Sabres’ turn to have a slice of the pie. A 25-point victory for the visitors showed what they are capable of, and what Delmarva Christian needs to work on.
“I’m excited to get the ESIAC season started,” coach Frank Roach said. “We have a lot of new players that will be inserted into varsity basketball for the first time. It's good to see them learning the game and working together. Early season is always tough as far as execution goes, but I'm looking for effort and heart to be displayed.”
Not wasting any time, the girls were eager to implement their improvements in their first conference away game of the season. A trio of seniors led the way in the Royals’ win in Salisbury, Md.
Four made three-point attempts helped Eva Elliott, nursing an injury, lead the team with 18 points, two blocks and three assists. Eve Bohinski’s 17 points were accompanied by a team-high eight steals.
“These rivalry conference games always let you know that the season is here,” Roach said. “We are ready to compete and give it our all. We are looking for our seniors Eve Bohinski and Eva Elliott to lead us in these early games. Their experience will be looked on to help out our youth.”
Delmarva Christian continues its conference slate with home games against Gunston School, 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, and Worcester Preparatory, 4:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 15.
