Delmarva Christian students give $2,500 to Love Inc.

Donating candy gram proceeds exemplifies love in action
March 28, 2021

Traditionally, Delmarva Christian Milton Campus students exchange Valentine’s Day cards every February.

In this year’s season of COVID, however, it became apparent that this long-standing tradition was not going to happen.

“We had a problem. We weren’t sure how our students could safely share their cards with one another,” said Principal Drew Jensen. A suggestion was made to ask the Parent-Teacher Fellowship for help.

“Instead of cards, it was suggested that students buy candy grams, and then our PTF volunteers would assemble and distribute them for the students,” said Jensen.

Students submitted forms that contained special messages to classmates and friends along with $1 for each candy gram. PTF volunteers then packaged candy treats and delivered them to the appropriate recipients.

Then, it was decided that rather than having the Parent-Teacher Fellowship keep the candy gram money, all proceeds would be given to a local charity. As a result, Delmarva Christian Milton Campus students were able to donate $2,575 to Love Inc. of Mid-Delmarva toward its Code Purple program.

“This was a win-win. Our students were able to share their love for one another through the candy grams while also experiencing the value of serving others by giving the proceeds away,” said Jensen. “And, Love Inc. was able to use the donation to support relief for our homeless neighbors.”
