Delmarva Temporary Staffing in Rehoboth celebrates 20 years in business

January 25, 2010

Delmarva Temporary Staffing Inc. is celebrating its 20th year in business.

Founder and President Melissa McDermott Joseph, CPC, started with four temporary employees at a local pharmaceutical company in 1990. The company began with seasonal staffing in Rehoboth Beach and a handful of temporary lab techs. Throughout the years the company grew to staff state government, large corporations and small businesses throughout the peninsula.

Joseph and her staff have placed thousands of people in jobs, and Joseph attributes her success to never giving up even during difficult economic times. “We have always had jobs - maybe not the career positions, but always a foot in the door with area businesses,” said Joseph.

“I had a wonderful career as a television weather forecaster and was being courted by the CNN Weather Channel to be an anchor. Then, a serious lung injury caused me to not be able to work, to walk or barely talk for nearly a year,” said Joseph. “I lost my ability to be a broadcaster and had to start over. I took a small loan from the bank and started my staffing company.

“I can relate to people who have lost their careers. I have found that the most important thing in securing a job is to have a positive attitude. You have to have good job skills, but your character is what will secure the position.”

Joseph’s company has placed many people in the clerical field, over the years. “Our clients depend upon us to screen employees and send only the top three candidates for interviews. Sometimes they trust us enough to just send a person to begin working,” Joseph said.

“Once we have interviewed the candidate and background checks are completed, we send only the most qualified for the position. Living in such a transient area as Rehoboth, we usually have extremely qualified employees who have relocated here.

“We are especially successful in placing retirees in positions. They are always overqualified and we love it. Most of my wonderful in-house staff are retirees who have become experts in matching employees to jobs.”

Delmarva Temporary Staffing Inc. is in the Red Mill Office Center. Appointments are required.
