Development is getting out of hand

January 6, 2026

My husband has been in the area for more than 70 years. This consists basically of camping on the beach and at Zack’s campground. We became permanent residents 20 years ago. Our home is in Dagsboro.

Watching the area change has been upsetting. It no longer has a feel of a small town.

The roads are a nightmare. I saw an article on routes 9, 24, and 113 needing expansion. There was no mention of the problems on Route 26. As a resident living on a side street off 26, you can wait up to five minutes to make your turn.

Then another concern is making a turn onto your street. I watch traffic coming behind me. I pray they are paying attention to me turning.

This is just one example. There are many others – doctors, hospitals and schools.

I know development is necessary, but it is truly getting out of hand. The area cannot continue on this path. A moratorium on building would be ideal until a resolution can be decided and better plans developed.
