Dewey Beach Exxon no longer selling gas

Remaining open as convenience store, will offer parking
February 13, 2026

The Dewey Beach Exxon on the corner of Coastal Highway and Swedes Street is no longer selling gas, but owners will keep the convenience store open.

The gas tanks were reportedly outdated and did not meet new statewide environmental regulations, according to employee Trey Kauffman.

The pumps and Exxon signage were removed within the last month, and the red-and-white awning will be removed next.

Kauffman said the business plans to use the area where the gas pumps were located to sell parking spots this summer.

Now that the business isn’t selling gas, it’s going by the name DBX, rather than Exxon.

The property, which also includes a small one-story house behind the store and an empty parcel behind it, is owned by Rehoboth By The Sea and is leased to the Rodgers family.

Shawn Rodgers, who died in late 2024, took over the store in the late 1970s and ran it until his passing.

The business has been in the Rodgers family for several generations.
