Dewey Egg Scoop hits the beach April 8

March 28, 2023

Spring is in the air and the Dewey Business Partnership is ready to hit the beach with the Dewey Egg Scoop at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, April 8, on Van Dyke Avenue beach at the Hyatt Place Dewey Beach.

This is a fun, all-ages, beach-centric spin on the traditional egg hunt put on by the DBP every year. It kicks off the spring season and brings everyone outdoors to have a little fun on the sand during Easter weekend.

Kelly Raneiri, DBP executive director, said, “We tailor this event so that kids from the age of just 2 years old up can participate, and the scoop is followed by a dog parade down our Baywalk! It’s a really wholesome event we look forward to each year, and it brings a lot of joy to the town that weekend.”

For the egg-cellent event, the Easter eggs are not hidden, but simply placed throughout the beach. Participants have to go around and scoop the eggs out of the sand, and it goes in rounds that correlate to age and ability. The Hyatt donated thousands of eggs, and Woody’s donated a ton of candy to fill them. The scooping starts with 2-4-year-olds, then 5-8-year-olds, and 9 and above for kids, and culminates in the adult egg scoop, which requires a $20 per person buy-in toward the 50/50 cash prize winner, the lucky person who can scoop up the special egg.

The event includes pictures with the one and only Easter Bunny, as well as a DJ spinning tunes.

Following the beach scooping, the Dewey Dogs Easter Parade will take place at 11:45 a.m. on the Baywalk, featuring all leashed pups. Ranieri and the DBP are encouraging participants to dress the dogs in their Easter best for the parade so everyone can show off in style.

The event and parking are free.

The Lighthouse will be open for food and beverages afterward for all who want to stick around and hang out together.
