Dewey police assist in life-saving medical response
About 9 p.m., June 26, members of the Dewey Beach Police Department responded to a medical emergency involving a CPR-in-progress call at a residence located on Saulsbury Street.
Upon arrival, officers found an off-duty firefighter actively performing CPR on an unresponsive adult male on the front porch of the residence. A Dewey Beach officer deployed an AED, which delivered two shocks before detecting a pulse and advising no further shocks.
Emergency medical personnel from the Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department and Sussex County EMS arrived shortly after and assumed patient care. Officers assisted emergency crews by retrieving critical medical equipment. The individual was subsequently transported to Beebe Healthcare by the fire department for further medical evaluation and treatment.
