DNREC: Sewage release results in closure of IR Bay to clam, mussel harvest

January 15, 2026

Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control has issued an emergency closure of Indian River Bay to the harvest of clams and mussels due to an ongoing sewage release linked to Millsboro’s sewer system. The bay will remain closed for at least 21 days after the discharge ends to protect public health. Rehoboth Bay is not affected. Crab, conch and finfish harvests remain open.
