The Eagles are not impressing me

October 29, 2021

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles lost to the Las Vegas Raiders by the score of 33-22. It wasn't even that close! The Eagles defensive performance was frankly embarrassing. The Raiders quarterback, Derek Carr, had a near 100 percent completion rate on his passing which almost never happens in the NFL. He was barely even touched by the defense for the entire game. In order for the Eagles to have a chance to win more games this season, the defense needs to get a lot more aggressive. The Eagles’ first quarter offensive play calling was somewhat better and they ran the ball a lot more. For some reason though, this ended after the first touchdown.

This week the Eagles play the winless Detroit Lions. So I hope, for the sake the players and head coach, that the team wins this next game. The media will have way too much to say about it if they don’t.

The World Series is tied 1-1. I am one of the biggest baseball fans there is. I wish there were one or two day games so more people could watch the entire game. All the games are going to start at 8 o’clock and last til midnight at least. That certainly won't help viewer ratings. The good thing about this World Series is that the Astros and Braves are very well matched, so this will probably be a long six- or seven-game series.

I feel bad for Braves pitcher Charlie Morton who broke a leg in Game 1 when he was hit by a line drive. It was beyond impressive that he did not immediately come out of the game. He pitched to two more batters before coming out, but he was the co-ace of the staff for the Braves along with Max Fried so this could now become a big factor in who wins the series.

The NHL season is in full swing now. Last year, the Philadelphia Flyers started well in the abbreviated season but then proceeded to implode and miss the playoffs by a lot. This year, they have gotten off to a good start again. We can only hope that their fortune has changed for the better this year now that they’re back to the normal 82-game season. It's a lot of time to keep the good momentum going.

It's always around Halloween when the end of the high school fall sports regular season starts to wrap up. So good luck to all of the Cape Henlopen teams – hockey, soccer, volleyball, cross country and football. Go Vikings!

I hope everyone has a good and safe Halloween trick-or-treating this weekend.
