Eagles continue to play well

September 30, 2022

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Washington Commanders by the score of 24-8. The defensive line had a great game with nine sacks of quarterback Carson Wentz, including four in the first quarter. I clearly overestimated how good Washington's offense was going to be. The Eagles offense was very good, especially in the passing game. AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith had great games. I think it is way too early to talk about MVP voting for anybody until about halfway through the season, but I’ve heard them talk MVP for Jalen Hurts. Next game for the Eagles is against Jacksonville. The Jaguars are playing better under head coach Doug Pederson. Trevor Lawrence is playing much better at quarterback. I sure hope the game is on TV here!

The Phillies could be collapsing again, and this one would be the worst. The Phillies team definitely has enough talent to make the playoffs this year, but they’re tied with the Milwaukee Brewers for the last playoff spot in the National League with seven games left to play. For the past week, the offense has gone to sleep. We will see if they can wake up fast enough to save the season. If the Phillies ultimately make the playoffs, interim manager Rob Thompson should be given the job for the next two years. BUT ... If the Phillies complete this current collapse, I think that will cost him that opportunity.

In golf last week, the U.S. continued its domination of the Presidents Cup by soundly defeating the International team by the score of 17 1/2 points to 12 1/2 points. The competition was a lot closer than the score indicates because the U.S. pulled ahead of the Internationals at the very end of most of the matches. The U.S. got off to a big lead after the first two days matches 8-2, but then the Internationals came back to make it 11 to 7 going into the Sunday singles matches. At the beginning of the week the U.S. was a significant favorite because they were on home soil at Quail Hollow Golf Club in North Carolina and also because two of the International's best players were not eligible for the tournament because they decided to play on the alternative LIV Tour. Cameron Smith from Australia and Abraham Ancer from Mexico would have been strong competitors had they been able to play.
