East Coast Garden Center staff clean up Cordrey Road
East Coast Garden Center staff did their part to clean up the environment and remove unsightly litter from their community Oct. 25. As participants in the Delaware Department of Transportation’s Adopt-A-Highway Program, they collected trash along two miles of Cordrey Road in Millsboro.
Members of East Coast Garden Center spent over two hours collecting 35 bags of litter. “It is amazing to see how much trash people throw out on the side of the road. The amount of used diapers was ridiculous,” said Melissa Dombrowski.
To adopt a highway, individuals, organizations or businesses agree to keep a two-mile stretch of road free of litter for a period of two years. Volunteers are provided with trash bags and safety vests to assist them with their cleanups, all at no cost. They also have the option of recycling any litter collected and keeping the money for their organization.
In recognition of each group’s involvement, DelDOT posts signs bearing the sponsor’s name at the beginning and end of the adopted section. For more information about DelDOT's Adopt-A-Highway Program, call 800-652-5600.
