Echo Aurora Lafferty, had radiant smile

June 3, 2019

Echo Aurora Lafferty (nee Shaw), 48, entered eternal rest Monday, May 20, 2019, in Dubuque, Iowa. Echo formerly resided in Collingdale, Pa., Lindley, N.Y., and Lewes.

Echo is lovingly remembered as "Momma Bear" by sons James (Tessa Techinine) and Robert Lafferty. Other mourners are her devoted mother, Mary Ann Corbett; sisters Tara (Robert) Shaw-Caruso, Rainbow (Thomas) Shaw-Giaquinto (children Gabriel and Ireland) and brother, Robert (Jeanette) Doherty. Echo is survived by her long time love, George Ideman; along with her stepmother, Lisa (Gaudiello) Shaw; and stepsiblings, Michael Halovsky, Jaime Warmington, and Jody Halovsky. Family members in the Corbett, Connor and Shaw families along with countless friends will miss her.

She was preceded in death by her father, Terry "Teeny Tar" Shaw; and doting grandparents, Phillip and Margaret Corbett and Mary Shaw.

Echo attended schools while in Collingdale and Lindley, where she graduated from Corning West High School. After high school, she attended Penn State Brandywine and played on the volleyball team. In 2015, Echo earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Argosy University.

Echo is remembered for her radiant smile, hearty laugh, passion for music and love of sparkly clothes. People immediately enjoyed being in her company. Her passion for music developed at an early age. She played several instruments by ear and sang with a gifted, confident voice…any style, any time, any place…from "El Shaddai" in churches to "Jolene" in bars.

Although she was talented and loved, she did not believe that to be true. Echo tried to bring her childhood trauma to light but her shame would not allow it. Her family hopes other victims find the strength to "Tell Someone."

Later, during a 10-year battle with a failing kidney, Echo struggled with the disease of addiction. Echo sought shelter in Christ-centered agencies (Mary, Mother of Hope, the Salvation Army and Lydia's Way). She enjoyed periods of sobriety which her family celebrated with her. Echo encouraged others to have a relationship with God, to use a 12-step program, and to seek professional therapy. Others have shared how she helped them. We are grateful for their kind words. Heartbreakingly, Echo ended her earthly life. Echo's laughter fills our souls and her songs play in our hearts. Echo will be remembered with love and respect forever.

Visitation and Service will be held at Cavanagh Funeral Home, Norwood Pa., Saturday, June 8, with visitation from noon to 2:30 p.m., eulogies from 2:30 to 2:45 p.m. and Prayer Service: 2:45 to 3 p.m.
