Edward 'Eddie' Fleming, government retiree

Edward Joseph "Eddie" Fleming, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Saturday, July 25, 2015, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. He was born Oct. 4, 1928, in Washington, D.C., son of the late Leonard L. and Roseleah (Augst) Fleming.

Eddie proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1947-49. After his honorable discharge, he worked in various positions for the U.S. federal government. On Nov. 23, 1953, he married the love of his life, Eva Carpintero, at Mt. Calvary Catholic Church in Forestville, Md.

Eddie was an avid fan of NASCAR and of the Washington Redskins. He loved solving crossword puzzles and building model airplanes. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Madison. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Eva Fleming; two daughters: Rose Mary Fleming of Towson, Md. and Eva Marie "Sissy” Morrison of Rehoboth Beach; two sons: Matthew Edward Fleming and his wife Patsy Ann of Pittsburgh, Pa., and William L. Fleming and his wife Kathryn H. of Towson; nine grandchildren: Heather, Edward, Kaci, William, David, Allison, Michael, Lucas and Amelia; a great-granddaughter, Emma; and two brothers: Leonard and Joseph Fleming.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, July 30, at St. Jude The Apostle Catholic Church, 152 Tulip Drive, Lewes, where a viewing will be held at 10 a.m., followed by Mass at 11 a.m. Interment will follow services at 1 p.m., at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 32112 Vines Creek Road, Dagsboro.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eddie's memory to the Casa San Francisco Center, P.O. Box 38, 127 Broad Street, Milton, DE 19968.
