Eleven Cape senior athletes sign and celebrate college commitments

Football and basketball have separate signing dates
November 21, 2025

National signing day was Nov. 12 for all sports except football and basketball. Cape pushed the date back one week because of a power outage at the high school traced to an electrical substation in Lewes.

The first rule of signing contracts is being able to see. Plus, school was dismissed early, with students handed a boxed lunch while exiting the rotunda.

National signings are no longer letters of intent but rather financial-aid agreements that are individualized for each athlete.

Cape’s 11 signees included five boys and six girls. Lacrosse had six athletes committed; the other five came from the sports of baseball, softball, cross country/track, field hockey and girls’ soccer.

Lacrosse commits were Brenner Short, Yale; Grant Conway, Randolph-Macon; Braddock Smith, St. Leo; Jordan Murray, Susquehanna; Claire Lopez, University of Colorado at Boulder; and Allaire Burton, Flagler College.

Ava Brown signed with Emory and Henry to play soccer, distance runner Jason Baker is going to Lehigh University for cross country and track, Emmett Wheatley will play baseball at Wilmington University, Alivia Longo is headed to West Chester University to play softball and Avary Miller will play field hockey at the University of Delaware.
