Empty Bowls fundraiser to fight hunger Sept. 22

September 19, 2019

Potters from Milton and Rehoboth and a contributor from Colorado will be part of the Rehoboth Beach Sunrise Rotary Club’s Empty Bowls fundraiser to fight hunger in Sussex County, set for Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center.

Attendees can enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread, and select a beautiful handcrafted bowl to keep as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world.

VIP seating begins at 1 p.m. General admission opens at 2:30 p.m. Demonstrations by Lakeside Pottery and Zochell Pottery, live music by 2nd Time Around and Hope For Success, and a silent auction will make for an interesting and entertaining afternoon.

Contributing potters to this year’s event are Rehoboth Art League members; Zochell Pottery; Mispillion Art League’s Mimi Galligan; Kathy Beach of Littleton, Colo.; Kathleen Lear; Nettie Green; Jenny Caldwell; Deborah Bryant; Lisa Kariacofe; Bethany Tyndall; and Natalie Evans.

Soup will be provided by Fish On, bread and cookies by Old World Breads, ice cream from Vanderwende, wine from Nassau Vineyards and beer from Dogfish Head. Empty Bowls was started in 1990 by a Michigan art teacher to raise funds for a food drive. It’s become an international project, personalized by artists, craftsmen and art organizations on a community level.
