Ernestine Martin, dedicated court employee

Ernestine Martin, 77, of Wilmington, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, at 8:30 p.m.

Ernestine is survived by her son, Shaun Gale; her sister, Robertine M. Cale; her niece, Kristen Cale of Florida; her nephew, Bernard (Jerry) Cale of Texas; her aunt, Roberta Danials; a host of cousins; and her cherished friends, Barbara Leatherberry, Claudette Carr and Linda Royer.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Preston Gale; her mother and father, Kathryn and Robert Martin Jr.; and her brother, Robert Martin III.

Ernestine did not live in lower Delaware, but she chose Lewes as her place to relax and spend time with her sister.

Ernestine dedicated over 35 years of service to the State of Delaware, working in the Superior Court system. She earned a bachelor's degree from Bennett College and a master's degree from University of Pittsburgh. In her role, she interviewed convicted individuals, researched the law, and wrote legal briefs for sentencing judges.

Services will be private.
