Fake weed business targets UD students
A fraudulent marijuana operation has targeted University of Delaware students, officials say.
The Delaware Division of Alcohol & Tobacco Enforcement says counterfeit business cards and flyers have been distributed in the Newark area, falsely claiming to be Fresh Delaware, a legitimate marijuana business. Officials said the impostors are attempting to mislead potential customers into purchasing marijuana products illegally. No licensed recreational marijuana dispensary in Delaware is permitted to deliver marijuana or marijuana products, officials said, and any business claiming to offer such delivery services is operating illegally.
Licensed dispensaries are permitted to deliver medical marijuana to qualified patients only.
Delaware’s adult-use marijuana marketplace includes strict regulations and testing standards designed to ensure consumer safety, officials said, and products sold through illegal channels bypass these safeguards and may contain dangerous contaminants such as mold, pesticides, or heavy metals.
DATE’s Marijuana Enforcement Unit is actively investigating this matter and encourages anyone with information to contact Cpl. Tristin Burris at tristin.b.burris@delaware.gov.
