FAME Inc. donates cybersecurity career guides to Girl Scouts

April 14, 2019

FAME Inc. recently donated 5,000 cybersecurity career guides to the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay in a ceremony with nearly two dozen Girl Scouts at GSCB’s Newark Resource Center.

The gift is part of a STEM Literacy Book Drive by FAME Inc., which has been partnering with community-based organizations and school districts to distribute STEM literacy booklets throughout Delaware and beyond. Thousands of Girl Scouts and their families will learn about pathways leading to careers in cybersecurity.

Girl Scout troop members and leaders attended, including Claudia Peña Porretti, chief executive officer; Donna Bolte, chief operating officer; and Renee Naughton, program director.

Donald L. Baker, FAME Inc. chief executive officer, said, “FAME Inc. is delighted to collaborate with the Girl Scouts through our STEM literacy outreach efforts. As a father of three girls, I understand the need to empower young ladies to be fearless in their pursuit of education and careers. We know that our collective efforts can help fill the growing demand for an inclusive STEM-ready workforce.”

“I thank FAME and Don Baker for this generous donation, which will enrich GSCB’s STEM resource library for Girl Scouts and open doors to career options in cybersecurity, one of the fastest-growing areas of job growth into the future,” Porretti said. “GSCB has one of the leading STEM programs in Girl Scouting nationally and the only LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum Certified building among the Girl Scout councils. We are all in on STEM, introducing Girl Scouts of every age to programs that can help them learn how to change the world.”

FAME Inc. is one of the nation's oldest STEM nonprofit education organizations. For more information, go to www.gwcb.org and www.famedelaware.org.
