The Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association hosted its annual awards program Jan. 5 for the winners of its fire prevention poster and essay contest.
Students in kindergarten through third grade design posters on their assigned fire prevention topic. Students in fourth through eighth grade develop essays. Local winners move to the county competition, and those winners compete at the state level.
The association’s ladies auxiliary sponsored a luncheon before the program which was prepared by Cheswold Fire Company auxiliary members. Association organizers were pleased to have Delaware Secretary of Education Dr. Susan Bunting in attendance, showing her support for the program and participating youth.
