Firefly: A little rain won’t stop the music
The fifth annual Firefly Music Festival was off to a bit of a sloppy start June 16 as rainy weather brought a little mud back to The Woodlands at Dover.
But the weather didn’t dampen fans’ spirits. And it definitely isn’t as muddy as the monsoon of 2015, said Virginia resident Diego Costcamps.
“I remember that very well,” he said. He and his friends posted up camp together to try to stave off some of the rain Thursday. In 2015, Firefly was rained out on the third night and scheduled headliners Kings of Leon canceled, but they have returned this year.
Scattered rain showers washed through Dover in the morning and early afternoon during the first day of Firefly this year, dropping nearly half an inch of rain on the Dover area, Delaware Environmental Observing System data show.
Showers and a possible thunderstorm are likely after midnight, and there is a continued chance of rain through 4 p.m., Friday, June 17, with a high near 75 degrees. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be clear and sunny with highs near 80 degrees, the National Weather Service forecast shows.
The four-day festival runs through Sunday, June 19, and features headliners Mumford & Sons, Kings of Leon, Florence & The Machine and Deadmau5, who will join more than 100 acts.
No cancellations have been announced; the only announced schedule change has been for rapper Ludacris, who was originally going to perform on Saturday, but will now appear at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 19.
