In conjunction with Beebe Healthcare, First State Community Action Agency hosted an event providing free flu shots and the Pfizer bivalent COVID-19 vaccine in Georgetown Oct. 10.

First State Director of Housing and Community Development Jaime Sayler said this is the first time they have hosted the bivalent vaccine opportunity, but they have hosted many clinics in partnership with Beebe Healthcare.

The well-known agency is a perfect place to host the clinic because of its community outreach, Sayler said, noting clinic organizers reached out in particular to those experiencing homelessness who are in need of vaccination.

“We do it here because it’s a place they feel comfortable and safe,” Sayler said.

Beebe Healthcare Director of Community Outreach Population Health Kim Blanch, RN, said it’s very important for people to get the flu shot to protect themselves, their families and the community.

This year’s flu shot for those in the Northern Hemisphere was adapted based on strains most prevalently seen in the Southern Hemisphere for greater protection, Blanch said.
