First Street Station rises in Rehoboth

March 12, 2024

First Street Station has been a fixture in Rehoboth Beach since opening in 1997. Groundbreaking for the 30,000-square-foot, multi-level shopping center begin in the fall of 1996. Taking up the entire block between Rehoboth Avenue and Wilmington Avenue, the lot was and is still owned by Grotto Pizza. According to a company press release announcing the project in 1996, the name First Street Station is a nod to the Rehoboth Railroad Station that operated directly in front of the property and played an integral role in the development of Rehoboth Beach. The original railroad station was moved to its current location at the entrance to the city in 1987.
