Neighbors celebrate Arbor Day, Earth Day

May 13, 2025

In honor of Arbor Day and Earth Day, the 55+ active adult community of Four Seasons at Belle Terre near Lewes recently held several special events over two days.

Presentations and activities focused on preserving and protecting the Earth and native wildlife, as well as Earth-friendly living and eating. The community’s environmental and garden groups sponsored the celebration events.

Activities included a community cleanup in common areas and some of Belle Terre’s protected wooded land; a nature walk near ponds and through forested areas at Belle Terre, led by ecologist and native Delawarean Burr Monroe; and Belle Terre’s inaugural Arbor Day tree-planting ceremony, with developer control having ended earlier this year.

Many residents and guests visited an Earth Day Fair at the clubhouse with food samples, fun games and educational exhibits focused on what people can do to protect and preserve the natural environment. Options included environmentally friendly gardening, making more earth-friendly choices in their daily life, and learning about recycling and how to properly dispose of household trash in Delaware, with assistance from a Delaware Solid Waste Authority representative and Belle Terre’s Trash Toss learning activity.

Organizers said Belle Terre is a very active community, and its residents want to give back to help make a difference in Lewes and throughout Delaware. For these people, every day is Earth Day.
