Fr. Roman Stadtmueller, longtime priest, counselor

Fr. Roman Stadtmueller, SDS, 95, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023, in Lewes. Born Harold Joseph Stadtmueller March 27, 1928, to Theodore and Elizabeth "Elsie" (Binder) Stadtmueller in Oshkosh, Wis., he entered the Society of the Divine Savior (Salvatorians) Sept. 8, 1948.

He was ordained a priest June 5, 1954, and taught at Jordan Seminary in Menominee, Mich., and St. Pius X Seminary in Galt, Calif. He also served as a missionary in Tanzania, Africa, for 15 years; as assistant director of novices for the USA Salvatorians; as civilian chaplain at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.; as counselor for Catholic Charities in Georgetown; and as a helper priest at St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Lewes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister Delores (the late Harry) Kallas. He is survived by brothers Albert (the late Lois) of Spokane, Wash., and Paul (the late Katie) of Vero Beach, Fla.; numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins, and their families; a close friend, Lay Salvatorian Marion Bau, SDS; as well as his brothers and sisters in the Salvatorian Family.

Funeral arrangements are set for Wednesday, June 14, with visitation at 10 a.m. and Funeral Mass at 11 a.m., at St. Pius X Church, 2506 N. Wauwatosa Ave., Wauwatosa, Wis. Interment will follow at 3 p.m., at Salvatorian Cemetery, St. Nazianz, Wis.

A Memorial Mass will take place at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Lewes at a later date.
