Frantic Music Project honors Uncle Warren
Frantic Music Project held a special open mic event Feb. 2 at Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton. Friends, relatives and neighbors gathered in the tasting room to honor local musician and friend, “Uncle Warren” Wormann. Live music was performed by a number of local musicians, who all donated their time and talent for the event.
A resident of Milton, Wormann was a regular at Dogfish Head. He had a big spirit, a happy smile and a great mustache. He occasionally performed at the tasting room and brought smiles to everyone. No one was a stranger to Uncle Warren. He died Oct. 20, 2024.
Frantic Music Project’s work provides assistance to working musicians in Delaware. The group brings the community together through music and recognizing musicians who make a difference.
“We thought it would be fitting to hold a special open mic in Uncle Warren’s honor,” said Mary Knight, co-founder of Frantic Music Project. “He attended a number of our open mic events, and loved the music and the people. Dogfish was a most fitting location, and we appreciate their enthusiasm for letting us hold the event there.”
A 50/50 raffle was held and donations were collected by Frantic Music Project, totaling $1,078 for the Warren Wormann Jr. Memorial Fund. The scholarship fund was set up in 2005 by the Wormann family to honor their son Warren Jr., who passed away in 2005. The scholarship has been awarded to one graduate of Pope John XXIII High School each year since 2006.
“What a great afternoon at the Milton brewery,” said Tom Bastian, Dogfish Head tasting room and kitchen general manager. “Uncle Warren was not only a great friend, neighbor and Dogfish evangelist, but we were only too lucky to have him play our space on multiple occasions. I was so happy when Mary reached out to us about hosting an opening mic in his memory. It was the perfect celebration of Uncle Warren and also an awesome opportunity to raise money for Warren’s son’s memorial scholarship fund, which I know would have warmed Warren’s heart.”
