Fred Thomas seventh-graders showcase creative book projects

Seventh-grade students at Frederick D. Thomas Middle School recently celebrated the completion of their first English Language Arts unit by sharing creative book projects that reflected their independent reading selections.

The project presentations gave students an opportunity to demonstrate comprehension, creativity and communication skills while connecting more deeply with the books they had read independently during the first marking period.

Many students designed pizza box book reviews, using each section of a pizza box to represent different story elements such as plot, characters and themes. Others took a multimedia approach, producing advertisement-style videos to promote their chosen books, or newspaper-inspired articles that captured key events and takeaways.

Students enjoyed exploring the variety of formats and perspectives their classmates brought to their projects. The activity not only marked the close of the first marking period but also encouraged students to think critically about literature and express their understanding in imaginative ways.
