Fredman is a treasure for this community

October 17, 2025

My family and I have owned a home in Lewes since 2003. Since then, I have had the pleasure of reading Dave “Fredman” Frederick’s columns, regularly enjoying his unique take on things local. I’ve decided that it is high time I wrote to say what a pleasure it has been to read both his own column and his reporting on particular sporting events in the area. He is a treasure for this community. In reading him these many years, he has made me feel part of this community. Even when I am away from Lewes (we also have an apartment in D.C. and spend our winters in Florida), I look forward on Tuesdays and Fridays to reading Fredman’s column online to keep me in touch with the area. It is always a fount of information, including retrospectives of former student-athletes, wry commentaries on the current scene and interviews with locals. His columns connect you with this area in a special way. His self-deprecating humor, in an era of overwhelming braggadocio, is a welcome relief. He wears his humanity on his sleeve. Fredman, an accomplished athlete and coach in his own right, also knows, vis a vis sports, “It’s only a game!” Keep up the good work.
