Free equine-assisted therapy for veterans available in Lincoln

December 5, 2018

Courageous Hearts LLC in Lincoln has announced a partnership to provide grant-funded, military-focused, equine-assisted psychotherapy.

Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association will receive more than $225,000 in funding from a 2018-19 Veterans Administration Adaptive Sports Grant to support equine-assisted therapy through EAGALA-certified military organizations like Courageous Hearts.

Thanks to a growing body of evidence showing promising results, the ASG has earmarked funds specifically for equine-assisted psychotherapy – where horses are involved in focused, professional interventions to address trauma and other mental health needs, including substance abuse, depression and improving family relationships.

An Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran who received equine-assisted therapy in 2018 said, "Working with EAGALA was a profoundly moving experience for me. I gained insight and wisdom that I did not think was possible. Any service member who has an opportunity should try it."

EAGALA’s Military Services Designation raises the bar for equine-assisted psychotherapy for active military, reserves, veterans and their families.

Group and individual sessions are available for no fee to qualifying individuals. Veterans looking to receive services under this grant may contact Rosemary Baughman at courageoushearts1@rocketmail.com or 302-593-1378. For more information, go to www.courageoushearts.us or www.eagala.org.
