Freedom Boat Club donates $10K to Big Brothers Big Sisters
Freedom Boat Club, the oldest and largest boat club in the nation, is currently in its third year of a partnership campaign to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters organizations across America. As part of this campaign, Freedom Boat Club Delaware has generously donated $10,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware through their Freedom Gives Campaign. This grant will help support Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware’s mentoring programs for at-risk youth. In addition to this grant, FBCD generously hosted Boating Big, All Aboard for the Littles, a boating day for the Big Brother and Big Sister volunteer mentors and their Littles in the program.
On Aug. 21 and Aug. 22, Freedom Boat Club welcomed 43 volunteer mentors, Littles and parents aboard their boats for a fun day on the water. The mentors, children and parents enjoyed a boat ride on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal and the Delaware Bay. Some even had the opportunity to see dolphins, while others used this event as an opportunity to visit the beach for the first time ever.
“Thank you Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware and Freedom Boat Club of Delaware for the opportunity to go out on the water today! Jada [Little Sister] faced her fears, got to drive the boat and we got to bond over some dolphins,” says Big Sister Jhas Williams-Wood of Milford.
In 2018, Freedom Boat Club opened its doors in Sussex County, providing an opportunity for Delawareans to have an affordable option to boat ownership without the hassle of owning your own boat.
“We are very happy to have had the opportunity to create a special boating event for the Bigs and Littles this year, and we hope this experience created memories that will last a lifetime for them,” said Freedom Boat Club of Delaware President Tom Rosella. “We are thankful to our staff and members, and for the entire Freedom Boat Club organization, for their time and support in helping us to further the good work of BBBS and their Delaware Chapter.”
