Gallery One to present Capture the Magic exhibit starting Nov. 30

November 28, 2022

Gallery One will present its December show, Capture the Magic, to the public from Wednesday, Nov. 30 through Monday, Jan. 2.

This month at Gallery One, the artists are capturing the magic of the season, and for the first time, the theme was chosen by gallery patrons.

Magic is defined as an extraordinary power or influence, seemingly from a supernatural source, something that seems to cast a spell or gives a feeling of enchantment. The holidays uniquely embody that sense of wonder.

Nothing says Christmas like a special tree. In artist Laura Hickman’s pastel, “Magic Tree," she captures the early morning light as a low-lying fog creates a golden opacity between the Norway spruce trees outside her studio. Cindy Beyer’s pastel painting, “Enchantment in the Forest,” invites the viewer to imagine strolling along a favorite path deep in the forest on a cold, snowy day. Mary Bode Byrd’s classic Christmas tree embodies an exuberant delight in her acrylic mixed-media painting, “Oh Christmas Tree.”

Nature provided a magical moment captured in Cheryl Wisbrock’s watercolor, "Peekaboo,” with a view that briefly appeared at sunset after an overcast day at a friend's waterfront farm. In “Sunflowers at the Shore,” an oil painting by Marybeth Paterson, one sees the magic nature creates for those who pause and look closely.

A special moment in time can also be magical, as in Dale Sheldon’s acrylic, “On the Avenue.” She happily remembers magical days enjoying the beach and boardwalk, with Nicola Pizza on the Avenue as a favorite stop. And then there is actual sleight-of-hand magic: “Hat Hare,” an acrylic by Joyce Condry, illustrates the magical mystery of how a bunny is a party to the enchantment.

Gallery One is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day at at 32 Atlantic Ave., Ocean View.
