Gallery One welcomes new partner Michelle Marshall

November 19, 2018

The artists of Gallery One in Ocean View are delighted to welcome new partner Michelle Marshall.

A local favorite, Marshall has a passion for depicting the ocean, bay and marshes, and the ever-changing sky. She is constantly inspired by the light, atmosphere and emotion of unique local coastal and rural settings.

“Living at the beach affords great inspiration for my work. The numerous state parks of the Delaware Bay watershed, and the glades, marshes and estuaries beckon to me,” said Marshall. “I always begin with a specific place in mind and work from photos and direct observation, and allow the painting to evolve in its own unique way. My work is impressionistic and tonal, and I seek to evoke a sense of feeling and atmosphere through color and value.”

Her work communicates a universal awe-struck affection for vast unspoiled marshes and wide-open skies. Incandescent tones and intense color merge, creating signature ethereal scenes verging on abstraction, yet still conveying a sense of place and mood.

Marshall was raised in Rehoboth Beach and has a degree in art from the University of Delaware. She is also a signature member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and has exhibited and received numerous honors and awards both locally and regionally. She actively participates in plein air competitions, and won first place in the 2012 Coastal Plein Air contest. She recently won an award for Best Use of Light in that event.

Gallery One, at 32 Atlantic Ave. in Ocean View, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. seven days a week, and is always staffed by one of the artists. For more information, call 302-537-5055 or go to www.galleryonede.com.
