Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware was given $1,000. Since 1964, BBBS of Delaware has been providing caring adult mentors for at-risk youth. Volunteers serve as friends, mentors and role models, helping children who are primarily from single-parent homes gain greater self-confidence. Big Brother and Big Sister mentors encourage their Little Brother or Sister to realize their potential and see themselves with happy and successful futures. The mentors have influenced the lives of over 1 million children in thousands of communities across the nation. Each Big Brother/Big Sister relationship is carefully administered and supported by rigorous standards and trained personnel. The staff strives for matches that are not only safe and suited to the child’s needs, but also harmonious and built to last. To learn more about the group’s efforts, go to bbbsde.org.

The Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation received $1,000. CHEF seeks to inspire learning and to prepare all students for a healthy, productive life in a diverse and global society. To accomplish this, the foundation seeks to engage the entire community including educators, parents, businesses and civic and legislative leaders in providing students with the tools they need to excel. From 2007 to the present, CHEF has funded approximately 200 teacher grant requests totaling more than $250,000 in educational aid to schools within the Cape Henlopen School District. All funds support anti-bullying and homeless programs, arts, scholarships, career-focused initiatives and other activities. For more information and to donate, go to chef-cape.org.

As the charitable arm of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, the Gallo Realty Gallo Gives Foundation is funded through the company’s agents, management and owners. Agents are encouraged to donate a percentage of their commissions earned, and the firm matches all agent and staff contributions 100 percent. Public donations are accepted as well. Each Gallo Realty office in Lewes, Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach is represented by individuals who serve on the foundation’s giving committee. The committee researches community charities in need and recommends funding. The foundation is managed by the Greater Lewes Foundation.

Established in 2016, the Gallo Gives Foundation has donated more than $175,000 to local and worldwide charitable organizations. To contribute to the foundation or request a grant, send information to Andrew Ratner, BHHS Gallo Realty, 37230 Rehoboth Ave. Ext., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
