Gary Jackson Peters, jack of all trades, veteran
Gary Jackson Peters, 85, of Lewes, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.
Gary (Jack) was born in January of 1937 in Beckley, W.Va., son of the late Mamie Peters. Jack was a graduate of Wilmington High School, after which he began his career for many companies, including Borden’s, Breyers and Roadway. He also served his country honorably as a master sergeant in the Delaware Air National Guard, retiring after 25 years of service.
Throughout his life, Jack enjoyed many hobbies such as camping, golfing, fishing and gardening. He was truly a jack of all trades; having a natural curiosity and knowledge of how things worked, there was absolutely nothing that he could not repair. He also enjoyed supporting his Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. Later in life, Jack enjoyed RV’ing with his wife, Betsy, while traveling the country, especially visiting Alaska and the western United States. Ultimately, nothing brought Jack more joy than his family, especially his grandchildren who were often delighted learning something new from him, finding his especially hidden Easter eggs, or simply riding on the back of his tractor. He also enjoyed attending many of their sports or performance events and simply watching them grow.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 62 years, Elizabeth (Hunter) Peters; his daughters, Lisa Peters Minuti (Albert) and Kelly Peters McCauley (Patrick); his five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the (Lewes) Delaware Hospice team for their compassionate care and support. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963, delawarehospice.org.
Services and interment will be private.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
