The Gazette explores Iceland with Lewes adventurers

September 24, 2025

Last March, travel club members from the Unitarian Universalists of Delaware in Lewes embarked on a journey to Iceland. Although cloud cover kept the Aurora Borealis hidden from view, the group found much to admire in the country’s dramatic landscapes and rich culture. The Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, is a natural light display caused by solar particles colliding with gases in Earth’s upper atmosphere. Often visible in high-latitude regions like Iceland, the lights shimmer in shades of green, pink, and red, depending on the type of gas and altitude of the collision. Though the skies didn’t cooperate this time, the spirit of adventure and awe remained strong throughout the trip.
